Hello, my name is Ashwittha Ganesan and I am currently a sophomore Computer Science student at the University of Maryland. I became a part of the Public Leadership Scholars Program in Fall 2019. I hope to use my Scholars experience to lead my own social projects to combat issues that I am passionate about. Specifically, I want to use the skills I have learned through this program to lead graphic design projects that help spread awareness about issues like climate change. I want to lead art projects that educate people about current issues. Through my Scholars experience I have learned how to use leadership to effectively address social issues. I also practiced applying the skills I learned in a Public Leadership Colloquium class I took in Spring 2020. In this class, I worked with a team of students. We donated grant money to an UMD organization that educates the community about sexual violence prevention. What I want to get out of the Public Leadership Program is to become a more informed citizen who can help address similar social issues in the future. I have learned what it takes to be a better leader and found ways that I can use leadership skills to create change. I have also built friendships and memories through this program that mean the world to me. Overall, my experience in the Public Leadership Program has been an important part of my college experience that I will never forget.
